About Me

I was born in Cardiff, Wales, at the end of World War 2. My Dad was stationed at Eglwys Brewis, near St. Athan in South Wales. He had brought his family to live in married quarters in this tiny gated community. There are no memories of my earliest days and no photos of me as a baby. I was the last of six children born to Winifred and Cecil, and there was quite a span of ages among my siblings. My oldest sister was 17 years older than me.

I have been addicted to genealogy ever since I learned about the activities of my Celtic ancestors through family stories. I love being a family history detective and kinkeeper for my tribes and clans. Genealogy research began in the 1990s and I continue to uncover the stories of my ancestors from England and Wales. I love being an educator and geneablogger with a penchant for sharing stories of my ancestors and more recently, my journey into Ancestry in the Age of AI.

Essential Genealogist Biography

In 2003, I travelled back to my homeland, Wales, to attend the first conference on digital storytelling and became hooked on this fascinating technique of telling family stories. I found Eglwys Brewis on our journey to the homeland and was amazed at the fact that it still housed RAF airmen and their families.

In 2019, I graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Diploma in Family History, and in 2020, I began my new venture into becoming a Family History Educator. (Edupreneur).

I have created my first ebooks: Find out more about these at my Amazon Author Page.

  • Storifying your Ancestors
  • The Devon Kin Keeper
  • The Crown of Wisdom
  • The Essential Family Tree Detective
  • Murder in the Family Tree
  • A Tapestry of Tailors (Volume 1)
  • The Quantum Ancestry Project (coming soon)

I am now enjoying a new adventure in creating podcasts with other genealogists and storytellers. I'm loving the new adventure of networking with and finding out more about those who revel in the art of storytelling.

Edupreneur Biography

By 2020, my plan was to become an Edupreneur and share what I know about writing and genealogy with others. This plan became a reality during the first COVID epidemic. I wanted to expand my online teaching skills and build a Preserving Family History Academy. During the years 2020 to 2023, I took a deep dive into learning how to create, manage and promote my online academy - it all began with my enrolment in Sarah Cordiner's 'Concept to Course' 30-day Coaching Program. As of July 2023 I have 20 courses in my academy - that range from free 5-day challenges to full coaching courses to a membership subscription!

The Academy is designed as a Pathway to Success for the Essential Genealogist. The courses take you on a journey from a novice family tree researcher to a skilled ancestral storyteller. There are heroes and heroines in our ancestry, with stories to tell; we just need to find them. Take your ancestral story writing to new heights as you learn the basics of genealogy research and how to create, polish, and present your ancestral stories online.

The courses will help you learn how to share your stories as an ancestral profile, an article, a blog post, or an ebook.

Ancestry in the Age of AI

I have now embraced the world of artificial intelligence to provide me with assistance on my own journey of discovery about my ancestral past. Chat GPT became my genealogy assistant earlier this year, and I now make frequent use of it as a Generative Pre-Trained Transformer of natural human language to generate a response.

The use of Chat GPT and other AI tools is now built into my courseware to enable family historians to overcome barriers to writing. Enrolled participants can learn how to transform their genealogy research into captivating narratives to engage their family and friends.

I have created a new course called Unlock Ancestral Storytelling which features the use of this platform, WeAre [...] to bring success to your journey from researching as a genealogist to writing and sharing ancestral archives. In this course, you will learn how to transform family history preservation into an archived legacy.
